Navajo Reporter dies

Andy Harvey, Channel News 12-Phoenix
Phoenix, AZ – According to Phoenix Channel 12 News, former Navajo news reporter Andy Harvey died late last night (May 23) “Sad news from the 12 News family. Former Reporter Andy Harvey passed away last night. He will be missed.” said 12 News on their facebook page.
According to 12 News, no other information is available. “We don’t know any details. We are just mourning his loss and thinking about his family at this difficult time.”
Mr. Harvey was the current senior public information officer for the Navajo Nation Department of Dine Education. Andy was born and raised on the Navajo Indian Reservation near the Four Corners area in Shiprock, NM. He was also a Board member for the Native American Journalism Association.
Andy wrote on his 12 news profile, “I had dreams of becoming a nurse like my mom, but decided to go into broadcast journalism. I did, however, work as a certified nurse assistant for two years while in college.” said Andy, adding “I had a great opportunity to hike up Mount Rushmore while working as a reporter in South Dakota. Not too many people can say they stood on a president’s head.”
Andy graduated with his Master of Arts in Rhetoric & Composition and a Bachelor of Sciences in Broadcast Journalism from Northern Arizona University.
