Shiprock teen found dead in her home

Shiprock, NM – On Thursday May 17, Shantelle Benally, 18 graduated from Shiprock High School- But was found dead at her home in Beclabito on Saturday. Navajo Investigators and the FBI are looking into the cause of her death and would not release any information.
CCSD Superintendent, Don Levinski said they are deeply saddened by the loss of the Shiprock High School graduate, calling her a ‘beautiful person and full of life’, reported the Daily Times.
Shantelle facebook wall was full of comments from friends and family members. Avia Marie said “My Niece beautiful daughter, please pray for the family for strength and comfort, everybody is so sad but we all know she is with her great grandma shima Esther Coleman.”
According to Shiprock High School, she was a Marine Corps Junior ROTC and apart of the Robotics team. It is unclear how Shantelle died, however Shiprock residence say she was last seen in a black Pontiac car.
Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI in Albuquerque at 505-889-1300. Funeral services will be on Friday at the Bethel Christian Reform Church in Shiprock.
