Phoenix, Ariz – Glenn Hamer gets appointed by Gov. Brewer, as the new Co-Chairman of the Governor’s Solar Energy Task Force.
The group, led by fellow Co-Chairwoman Leisa Brug (Director of the Governor’s Office of Energy Policy), was established by an executive order signed by Governor Brewer in 2011.
“As President and CEO of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Glenn is one of the most respected business leaders and job creators in the State,” said Governor Brewer. “With a keen interest in promoting pro-business policies – and a wealth of experience in energy policy, to boot – Glen’s elevation to Co-Chairman will be a tremendous asset to the Task Force.”
The mission of the Task Force is to promote and enhance the solar industry’s presence in Arizona by:
- Evaluating incentives provided to solar energy producers and manufacturers;
- Identifying impediments to solar-energy development, and potential solutions;
- Evaluating and proposing reforms to public processes and tax structure that may advance development of solar energy, and;
- Advising the Governor on any solar-energy matters deemed critical.
“I’m honored to serve as the new Co-Chairman of the Governor’s Solar Energy Task Force. This group is critical to advancing Arizona’s position as a leader in solar energy, having been ranked number three in the nation in terms of solar megawatt generation,” Hamer said. “I look forward to joining my colleagues on the task force in touting solar as a viable energy option and in identifying any barriers to the industry’s growth in the state.”
Mr. Hamer has been president and CEO of the Arizona Chamber of Commerce since 2006. In 2011, he was a lead advocate for the passage of the Arizona Competiveness Package, one of the most significant pieces of job-creation legislation ever passed in the State of Arizona.
Previously, Mr. Hamer served as Executive Director of the Solar Energy Industries Association, and as Director of Business Development and Government Relations for First Solar. He also was Chief of Staff to former Arizona Congressman Matt Salmon; Executive Director of the Arizona Republican Party; and legislative assistant to Senator Jon Kyl.
Mr. Hamer received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations. He carries a law degree from Arizona State University’s Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law.
He replaces Jim Strock as Co-Chairman of the Solar Energy Task Force; Mr. Strock will continue to serve on the panel.
