Dead body found, deputies shot at

San Juan County, NM – Around mid-day Sunday, May 27 San Juan County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a rural area approximately 2 miles north of NM 516. A mountain biker had located a deceased male. Due to the evidence on scene, the case is being investigated as a homicide.
San Juan County sheriff say, they conducted a surveillance on a property on County Road 2595 when they were shot at. The SWAT team was called in to the area, 4 individuals were detained, including 47 year old Martin Martinez who was arrested and charged with two counts of Aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and Tampering with evidence.
It is not known, if the shot out is connected to the dead body found, however Sheriff officials say the homicide investigation is on-going. The cause of death and identity of the victim will be released after the autopsy in Albuquerque.
