GALLUP, New Mex.—Owners of Navajo businesses met today in a forum to speak with Genevieve Jackson, a candidate for New Mexico State Senate districts four.

“It’s important we elect a candidate who will work to put people back to work in New Mexico,” said Geneva Peters, owner of TP Enterprises.  “It’s not just businesses alone,” said Ms. Peters, “it takes businesses supported by government to achieve this result.”

Genevieve Jackson is looking to unseat incumbent Sen. George Munoz.  She announced her candidacy and was immediately challenged on residency and prevailed in court.

Cal Nez, President of Cal Nez Designs.

“All businesses make up the economic climate,” said Cal Nez.  “We need a senator who places importance on all businesses in the district—not a select few.  That’s pro-growth.”  Cal is a business-owner for 25 years and originally from New Mexico.

On Tuesday, June 5, 2012, New Mexico voters will go to the polls to cast their votes in the New Mexico primary election.

Jackson has campaigned over the last several months on increasing opportunity and businesses in the district.  “Our future is in renewable energy,” said Amber Schillinger, who owns Navajo Power, a renewable energy group developing solar panel manufacturing jobs in Arizona and New Mexico.  “What we’ve learned is that Genevieve is for renewable energy, a future energy source for New Mexico.  It means jobs—it means growth.”

Navajos businesses support growth for all businesses, said Cal Nez.  When businesses in the district employ workers it’s a win-win for all, he said.
