WINDOW ROCK– Navajo Nation President Ben Shelly shakes up the Capitol with some schooling on the Water bill for the 24.

“I want to make sure my administration does all they can to educate our council delegates about the settlement. I have heard delegates say they wanted to review the settlement paragraph by paragraph, so now we can do that at this critical time for the settlement,” President Shelly said.

The President has organized an informational two day meeting for council delegates to learn about the Little Colorado River Water Settlement, it will start on Saturday June 16 at 8a.m.

Mr. Shelly invited all Council members through a letter to the Speaker Johnny Naize. “I encourage council delegates to attend the session and take an opportunity to address the settlement and ask questions,” the President wrote in a June 14 letter.

According to the press release, the meeting will be held in the new Navajo Nation Division of Transportation Complex in Tse Bonito, N.M. maybe in the new ‘War room?’

The Navajo Department of Justice and the Navajo Nation Water Rights Commission will be leading discussions about the settlement.

The Speakers office said Thursday, they have ‘tentatively scheduled a Naa’bik’iyati’ Committee meeting for June 22 and a Council Special Session for June 27 for the purpose of taking up legislation 0230-12, which deals with the Navajo-Hopi Little Colorado River Water Rights Settlement.’

On June 9, Speaker Naize introduced legislation 0230-12, that bill is still open for public comment. Mr. Naize said “I encourage all interested citizens who oppose or support the water rights settlement to submit their comment. I encourage you to assist family, friend, elders, youth to submit their comments,”
