Alvina Begay, a member of the Navajo Nation- Begay grew up in the ‘Hornet nest’ of Ganado, AZ a small Navajo community that sits just west of the Capitol in Window Rock. With vast red dirt and clay, it certainly is a runners play ground with open roads and free space to run.
On Friday, the USA Track and Field reported Begay finished 17th place in the 10,000 meter trail run for the 2012 Olympics, unfortunately she did not qualify to participate in this years Olympics. We tried to reach out to Begay, but we had no luck with what her plans might be next.
Native from across the country are rising in the sport industry like Notah Begay III, Jacoby Ellis, to name a few. Certainly, a new breed of athletes are rising- inspiring younger generations of people to seek something better and new.
