Church Rock, NM - “I am ecstatic, still in shock.  I don’t think it has sunk in yet!  All the girls did an amazing job,” explains Yolanda Charley, 24, of Vanderwagen, NM. Charley was crowned Queen of the 91st Annual Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial on August 11th at Red Rock Park in Church Rock, NM.

Overall there were five Navajo women competing for the Ceremonial crown.

Charley dedicated her crown to her family, supporters and sponsors at Shush Yaz. The path to her recent crowning was carved partly by her belief that “anything is possible, and if you believe in yourself and work hard you can achieve your goals.” She hopes other Navajo youth will apply this advice to success in their own lives.

In 2008, Yolanda was crowned Miss Navajo Nation and prior to that she was Miss Eastern Navajo Agency.

With her recent crowning, Yolanda is now going to focus on her studies.

She currently attends Navajo Technical College in Crownpoint, NM, and is working towards her associate’s degree in public and business administration.  She would eventually like to earn her bachelor’s degree and become a Navajo cultural teacher.
