SAINT MICHAELS, Navajo Nation—Navajo Nation Human Rights Commission welcomes the Arizona’s primary election’s results in Navajo County Board of Supervisor District 5. District 5 is mostly located on White Mountain Apache Nation where County officials adopted the Navajo Nation’s proposed redistricting plans last year.

Yesterday, citizens who reside in Navajo County District 5 voted for Dawnafe Whitesinger as their democratic candidate of choice, according to election results posted on the Navajo County web site. She received 50.84% of the votes and will be placed on the November ballot as the Democratic candidate for a Board of Supervisor’s representative position.

The Navajo Nation’s proposed redistricting maps provided for Native Americans in District 5 an opportunity to elect a candidate of choice in accordance to the Voting Rights Act.
