OJO AMARILLO, NM – On the brink of New Years Eve, a man takes his wife, kids, and local neighbor’s hostage late into the night- creating a standoff with police on the Navajo Nation.
According to witnesses and a news tip the Post received, the hostage situation started last night around 930pm and finally ended this morning at 330am. Witnesses say a man took some neighborhood kids and his wife hostage in the NHA housing sub division of Ojo Amarillo near Kirtland.
Witnesses also said, the man appeared to be drunk and had a shot gun – witnesses also describe Local, State, and Federal officers had to secure the area and no one could leave or enter their home.
According to Cory Tanner, acting Public information officer with the San Juan County Sheriff office, he said this incident is a FBI manner and could not give any other information out, but did confirm the incident occurred last night.
Ojo Amarillo is near Farmington New Mexico, it is a subdivision of the Navajo Housing Authority located in the fields of NAPI or known as 371. We will update you, as we get more information.
