Navajo, Gila River, Salt River Indian Nations is among the top Tribes that could see millions
WASHINGTON – According to the Interior Department, Native American tribes could see $1.9 billion from the land buyback program.
According to Interior officials, they said the Navajo Nation could see over $100 million. Other tribes in the Arizona like the Gila River Nation could see $60 million and the Salt River Indian community could get $17 million reported the Tri-valley Central.
Interior Deputy Secretary David Hayes, also said the fund will addresses a ‘very serious historical problems.’
The land buyback program is from the Cobell lawsuit, which states the government mismanaged tribal trust account for decades.
