Navajo Nation bridging itself to new web technologies
WINDOW ROCK – The Navajo Nation will soon have wireless connection to the internet and cell service coverage for some of the vast remote areas of the 27,000 square mile reservation.
Nearly 30,000 households and 1,000 businesses will benefit from the new internet connection, reported the Daily Times. Tribal organizations and departments will also gain from the new wifi.
Mike Scully with NTUA said, “It’s a very complex project, and the Navajo Nation is the largest reservation in the country.” the new hotspot location are now being tested at selected locations across the reservation. Even the Chapter houses will have new internet connection.
According to NTUA, 550 miles of fiber optic cables runs throughout the Navajo Nation and 32 new communication towers were put in place to bring the Navajo Nation up to standards in the new age of technology.
NTUA also hopes every household will get to benefit from the new internet and wireless services, they expect services to be around $28.00 per month.
