Weekly Edition | February 28, 2012 | By: NP writer

Navajo officials are tight lipped about the incident?

Sam Tsosie/Navajo Post Reporter

Ganado, Ariz. – Early Friday morning,  the Navajo Transit Bus was involved in a collision with three vehicles. According to Fort Defiance Medical Center, 24 people were injured and one confirmed fatality.

The Navajo Post made several attempts to get more information on the incident, but officials say they “are not allowed to comment” at this point, the Navajo Transit nor the Navajo Nation has issued a official statement on the crash.

According to the Navajo Transit System’s website services and priorities it states we “are providing safe and reliable public transportation for the Navajo Nation. This is achieved through improving the quality of life for all citizens for the Navajo Nation by increasing the accessibility to services and resources of the public and private sectors, particularly in meeting the needs of health care, education, employment, recreation, entertainment and shopping.”

adding “Effective Friday, February 24, 2012, – To all Steamboat, Ganado Customers, Rt.2 – Toyei will be shut down until further notice. Sorry for the inconvenience, please make all necessary arrangements”

As this story is still developing, we will report any information given from officials.

So i guess you call this “safe & reliable public transportation” ? The bus drivers don’t even care about the speed limits! They drive a lil to fast.. I actually ride the transit bus but now i don’t think i’ll be SAFE riding in one… Smh

Hwy 264 is dangerous! It needs better patrolling by PSD. Kamakazi drives, speeding, following too close, passing on no passing lanes just to make it to work by 8am. It’s better to be late than never. Ppl need to smart up about their driving or get up a little earlier. It’s just carelessness that causes accidents.

I saw that bus parked at D&A body shop over the weekend. I was shocked to see it and the condition it was in. I hope that driver is ok. That windshield was destroyed. People need to watch the road and their surroundings. Stay to speed limit or less. You’re still going to make it to your destination. My condolence to family.

The public needs to wait for the NNDPS to complete its investigation. At this time due to there be a fatality it will take some time. As a result, no one can give a statement, it would be wrong to do so. It could possibly be used against the Navajo Nation, by overzealous lawyers.

The public therefore needs to be patient, until the investigation is completed.
